It seems to me that the best would be to release a new version (1.2.0) that:
 # Adds back getEnabledProtocol() as it was in 1.1.2 and
 # Changes getEnabledProtocol{+}s{+}() to a default method, that calls 
getEnabledProtocol() to build an array of size 1.
 # Add JApiCmp to run as part of the default Maven goal (assuming you use 
Maven). Or RevApi, or _something_ that verifies compatibility during a build.
 # Document the mishap that occurred in 1.1.3.
