Hi,
I haven't found any issue tracker, so I'm reporting the issue here: The
recent Moblin alpha2 is compiled with a PAE kernel ("physical address
extension"). This makes it unbootable on at least some Pentium M's,
which do not support PAE.
these same pentium M's do not have SSSE3 so Moblin is not going to work
on there anyway.
(and yes I have a laptop with such a pM.. and no I can't run Moblin on it)
Is PAE really needed? Do mobile devices really have more than 4 GB RAM?
PAE is needed for support for the Execute Disable (sometimes called NX) feature,
that gives programs a non-executable stack. This is one of the elements of the
defenses
against buffer overflows... quite a relevant feature for devices that are highly
connected to the internet.
