Hi;

If there is a better place to ask this question plz point me to it.

I have dl'd and dd'd the image onto a 1G PQI usb flash drive

spaz$ sudo dd bs=1m if=~/Downloads/moblin-netbook-developer-beta-refresh-2009080

I then installed in on the acer and went into the bios and reordered the boot
list so that

USB HDD: Generic USB Flash Disk

is item 1 on the boot list

i select boot and hit enter.

i then get the splash screen and nothing more. the led on the pqi flash drive
continues to blink for a good while (because i can see that it's booting up if
i edit the bootargs and get rid of 'silent')

if i do an Alt-F1 i can get the login prompt. that's good.

But i try and do a boot and install, i just get to a point where i have a
blinking cursor at 0,0 and no ability to do an Alt-F1 to get to the login
prompt.

This is not a happiness inducing turn of events. I need to get work done on
this cute little box!

To me, this seems like X is starting up and then switching to a non-existent VT
somewhere....

One other data point, when i hit the power button i do get the moblin power
button screen, so it will switch back to graphics mode to that.

So, is there a way to do a command line (hairy chested gentoo style :-))
installation from the login prompt?

tnx for any help you can provide!

johnu

ps: what is so ironic about this is that i actually get further with virtualbox
then i do with actual hardware, i get the installer to run to completion! so i
know *exactly* what i am supposed to be seeing in the install process, it's
just not working on the hardware.

pps: no it doesnt work in virtualbox when i restart after the install, i just
get a black and white screen that says 'mobin' and the virtual disk and net
icons flash for a while but nothing cool seems to happen
