Hi, This is due to this issue http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MFITNESSE-9 . This is indicated on the first page of the plugin site http://mojo.codehaus.org/fitnesse-maven-plugin/ (but it probably the less read page :-)).
We didn't investigate a lot this issue. Otherwise the plugin is compatible with the last version (at the beginning we use the latest version). I don't remember if we tried the 2006 version on another platform than windows. I'm interested by any information about this issue on Unix platforms. The trouble was very critic on our continuous integration server, because we had a lot of waiting process, each of them using several hundreds Mb of RAM. The both fitnesse version (2005 & 2006) are available in Maven repositories: http://repo2.maven.org/maven2/org/fitnesse/ You can use the http://mvnrepository.com site to find such information.
