hbm2ddl creating columns for transient fields

hbm2ddl goal / tool is producing columns for a field that is marked using
@Transient.
I also tried using the java term transient and it still produces the column.
I wouldn't think that this would be a setting somewhere that I am missing as
@Transient should not have generated columns under any circumstance
Sorry, I am not familiar enough with the plugin to know if this is a bug with
the mojo or if there is a problem with an underlying Hibernate tool.
