I am about to write a new MOJO that can change version or rename artifactId in the entire POM-hierarchie including parent-references, dependencies and dependency-management (if version matches). Maybe I will also build a goal ontop that opens a swing GUI showing the entire tree and allows to preview such changes. Is there something like this already? I do NOT want to re-invent the wheel. If not I am going to do that after all my pain with release-plugin and all the rotting JIRA-issues about maintaining or omitting redundant versions in POMs. Please let me know if you like the idea or if there is something similar already available or some libs that could be useful like dependency-tree ...
