The use case is, in the context of http://mifosforge.jira.com/browse/MIFOS-5157 (see also MAPPASM-158 and new MAPPASM-179), it would have been great to have an "executable WAR" in the repo named just myartifact.war, without any version number etc. The reason is that a common distribution is used for both an Appassembler-based launcher, as well as the same WAR file should be suitable for dropping into a Servlet Container - without having to rename it.
