In the Apache Sling project we use a single Maven property to set the desired Java version and then configure a number of maven plugins based on it: maven-compiler-plugin, animal-sniffer-maven-plugin and the maven-bundle-plugin. Since we support multiple versions of Java ( 5-7 ), not being able to configure the animal-sniffer-maven-plugin to check for Java 8 signatures is a blocker for supporting Java 8. Add Comment   Mojo's Animal Sniffer / MANIMALSNIFFER-44 Create Java 8 signature Java 8 has been out for some time now, but there is no signature yet. FWIW, it would be great if the artifactId would not be "java18" but "java1.8", as that would make it possible to re-use a {{javaVersion}} property often used in other places in the POM already (e.g., to configure the {{maven-compiler-plugin}}'s {{source}} and {{target}}).
