I didn't check the issues at the time of my vote (my fault). But for me, https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MRUNIT-192 is indeed a blocker.
If I am right, it means that everybody using custom writables which are not comparable and not providing a comparator will see their tests fail with a class cast exception. And the error would not be in their code but within MRUnit. That does not seem very reasonable for an update. The deadline of the vote is over but I would change mine to -1.
