It's true that you need to have apsite to modify www.a.o. However, that's not where your web site is. It's at myfaces.a.o, and the group for that is myfaces, not apsite.

take this up with them later because we cannot only have one person be
able to access our site!  Also, matzew does not have the umask set (or
its not working properly) so nobody else could change the site
anyways.

The umask is what caused the problem. Your site is currently group read. Any MyFaces committer should be able to make changes to the site once the group perms are corrected. You need to request that change from root@ if matzew is not going to be back for a while.
