Hi I usually update shared to its next snapshot version when it is necessary to do some change in shared. In this way if shared has no changes between core release, we know in a simple way when generate this artifacts or not. There is a bug (MYFACES-2433) that affects shared and could be solved on the next release of core 1.2.x, so there is no problem if we update to the latest greatest one.
