This is only affecting source files that are used for building the installers locally isn't it? In which case, if the required steps, including the required patch, are documented somewhere it's probably the better option. Triggering a new build of the release branch off of a new git hash would change the build version of all IDE modules. As long as what the installer installs is demonstrably identical to what you get from building the source release (git hash important there), then IMO I think we're OK.
