we are talking about different things :)

the original post was about debugging with some System.out.println(). I don't think this is copied to the IDE log. You would only see it in the output (IDE output or shell) - assuming you don't run into the 32/64bit bug which was mentioned before and I didn't know about.

proper loggers do of course land in the actual log as you said.

Maybe you should try using INFO/SEVERE levels, though.
