The original post is about not losing features and breaking projects when moving away from 8.2 and into apache land. I'm wondering if the automatic (or at least semi-automatic) download technique can be leveraged into a general mechanism at least for previously supported features; even to add new features that can't be included due to licensing issues.

It's more about keeping "just works out of the box" alive and not breaking 8.2 projects.
