yes I am looking forward to that one. The average dusty enterprise project has 5+ shaded versions of ASM in it right now.

JDK 20 already has java.lang.reflect.ClassFileFormatVersion which is a start.

Yes, following with interest!  The problem in #4944 is slightly
different though.  Is the Gradle Tooling API itself immune to the
problem of running on future JDKs?
