Hi all,

Quite some progress has been made since the release of the 1st NetBeans
software grant to Apache.

Jarda and Jan have taken two of the three repos that are part of the 1st
code donation and pushed them to Apache Git, mirrored at these GitHub
locations:

https://github.com/apache/incubator-netbeans-html4j
https://github.com/apache/incubator-netbeans-jackpot30

The initial Apache processes for dealing with new contributions (
https://incubator.apache.org/guides/transitioning_asf.html) are being
followed and are centrally tracked at
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/NetBeans+Transition+Process
.

For the netbeans repo (i.e., the NetBeans Platform + Java SE tooling,
including Java 9 tooling, such as for Jigsaw and JShell), the push will be
done by Petr Gebauer -- since he's from the organization in Oracle making
the donation and he's also been the main infrastructure person in NetBeans
for many years. However, there turned out to be a few problems to sort out
with his iCLA, Apache ID, and general permissions for doing the push, which
are now being sorted out. That's the reason right now that that push hasn't
been done yet to Apache Git, mirrored at this GitHub location, which is
therefore currently empty: https://github.com/apache/incubator-netbeans

However, Jarda and Jan's initial steps will pave the way for the big
NetBeans push to be done by Petr, e.g., the discussion has started about
the '.form' files, for example, which will then not need to be held from
scratch for the NetBeans repo. I.e., via these two smaller repos we're able
to work through a few things already.

Basically, Jarda and Jan are leading the way, as always!

That's basically where we are right now. Many thanks to Michael Nascimento
for working with Jan on the jackpot30 repo, more people are going to be
needed obviously once the main NetBeans repo push is done and we'll need to
create separate issues for many challenges we'll come across in addition to
updating the central Wiki location about on the NetBeans transition process.

Thanks all,

Gj
