Thanks Amit, I've fixed #2 in r809785 but I'm I don't think #1 is related to my changes so you'll need to report the issue in jira as I don't have time to dig into it right now.

1) Hit URL  https://localhost:8443/catalog/control/advancedsearch
2) Select Demo Catalog.
3) Depress "Find" button..
