Pierre Smits commented on OFBIZ-5464:
-------------------------------------

Yes, the internet connection is required. But we are dealing with a web
solution with intended external connectivity. If used only internally (within
the firewalls) then there are limitations. But these can be overcome. (inhouse
repositories, dedicated access points, etc).

The aspect I spoke about earlier, had to do with unwanted dependency downloads
when resolving a module (jar) via Ivy. But also seeing that some of the modules
used in OFBiz being that old (or specific) that they aren't found in any
repository.

The compilation issue when using a different module than currently in trunk is
a serious one. Any uptake of an upgraded module (whether manually implemented
or automated through Ivy) must trigger a complete build and test sequence to
flesh out the kink before incorporation in trunk.

By the way, what did you mean by 'off-centered ones' as stated in your earlier
posting?

> Extend Ivy usage for easier external lib management

> Currently Apache Ivy is used to facilitate downloads of specific external jar
> files for Activemq, mySQL, postgreSQL configuration and Sonar and Cobertura
> functions.
> However, Apache Ivy can also be for easier management of the standard jars
> OFBiz is dependent on, in
> - various framework areas
> - various base and special purpose applications/components.
> Applying more ivy functionality will decrease the load on commiters regarding
> maintenance of (and upgrading) external jars used and required licence
> information.
