If Xerces 2.10.0 isn't explicitly listed as a dependency in the poms, then Java
will automatically revert to an older version that has a race condition in the
validator. We should add a test to make sure that we don't accidentally remove
the dependency.
This issue seems to be the same as this Java bug, though it was supposed to
have been fixed 2 years ago:
