GitHub user PsiACE created a discussion: [VOTE] Split out oli into a standalone repo (apache/opendal-oli)
Hi folks, As discussed in [#6617](https://github.com/apache/opendal/discussions/6617), we’d like to start a vote to **split out `oli`** (currently under [`[bin/oli](https://github.com/apache/opendal/tree/main/bin/oli)`](https://github.com/apache/opendal/tree/main/bin/oli)) into its own repository under the Apache organization (As a sub-project of Apache OpenDAL). ## Background `oli` is a CLI tool built on top of OpenDAL. It may become a useful utility for backup, sync, and migration, similar to `rsync`, but powered by OpenDAL operators. While it has lived in the main repo for convenience, it’s conceptually independent and can iterate on its own. ## Proposal We propose to: - Create a new repo `apache/opendal-oli`; - Move the existing `bin/oli` source, tests, and workflows there; - Maintain close alignment with OpenDAL core for shared components and governance. This change won’t affect OpenDAL’s core direction — it simply gives oli the space to grow into a practical, self-contained tool. ### Vote options * +1 — Yes, split out `oli` as a standalone repo * 0 — No opinion * -1 — No, keep it in the main repo (please explain why) **Voting period:** 72 hours from now. If this passes, we’ll proceed with the repo setup and migration. Thanks everyone for the discussion and support! — *Proposed by:* PsiACE GitHub link: https://github.com/apache/opendal/discussions/6664 ---- This is an automatically sent email for [email protected].
