## Summary
Modernize the Apache OpenJPA documentation site into a clean, responsive,
documentation-first theme (Apache Midnight + Gold, single light theme), with
an npm-based asset pipeline and a series of correctness fixes.
Part of the site-modernization effort. Please review; happy to adjust the
palette, layout or details.
## Theme & layout
- Single **Midnight + Gold** light theme: deep navy header (`#0F1B3B`) with a
gold accent (`#E6B53C`); dropped the dark theme entirely.
- Responsive 3-column docs layout: sticky left nav, right table-of-contents
with scroll-spy highlighting, breadcrumbs, prev/next cards (50/50 width).
- Header uses a styled text wordmark (**Open** in white, **JPA** in bold
gold)
instead of the raster logo; readable on the dark header.
- Links are light gold, bold, non-underlined (underline on hover, gold focus
outline for accessibility).
## Tooling / build
- npm-based asset pipeline (`scripts/build-assets.js`, `package.json`,
`Makefile`): local Bootstrap, Bootstrap Icons, and a local esbuild-bundled
highlight.js with SRI integrity hashes.
- `make dev` now **builds then live-reloads** (`pelican ... -lr`).
- Fix bootstrap-icons font paths so icon glyphs actually render.
- highlight.js now uses the IntelliJ IDEA syntax theme.
- `make prepare` generates the vendored CSS/JS.
## Content & correctness
- Duplicated page titles fixed (template title vs a leading body H1).
- Right-nav TOC anchors now point to real heading IDs so scroll-highlight
works.
- query-notes converted from a raw `<pre>` block to a readable bulleted list.
- 403/404 pages, favicon, DOAP metadata, search plugin added.
- Fixed broken footer ASF logo URL and a dead sidebar link.
- Un-ignore the hand-authored theme source (`css/custom.css`,
`js/doc-enhancements.js`) so the actual styling ships in the repo.
## Verification
- Site builds cleanly: 130 pages, no errors.
- Render-checked in headless Chrome at desktop (1440x900) and mobile
(390x844) with no console/CSP/JS errors.
