Ryan, I think what you want to do is what I do all the time. I happen to publish my data on a CubeWerx WMS/WFS environment. This is the most OGC compliant Web Map server in the market today but it is not free.
Anyway, I use it this way in an OpenLayers client app. I can use any basemap I like I have used GoogleMap, BingMaps, Openstreemap, NearMap imagery and various others. I then access my WMS service using either styles which are recorded in the getcapabilities document and are in fact embedded SLDs or I can use external SLDs which I can edit on the fly. Have a look at my demographicdrapes service at http://demos.numaps.com.au/demographicdrapes.html By the way, when I want to highlight a feature stored in my database I use SLDs again. The default base layer I am using is labs.metacarta.com and it has a basic layer amongst other layers like country_01. Are these layers vector layers in that I can control their style? Some of these layers I turn on and they don't really change anything on my map as well. Basically all I am after is a world vector map of coastal boundaries (low priority), ocean, country names and state names. I'd like to control the colours of the labels, the border colours and the land colour. I'll be adding my own image markers to these so I'm not to concerned about this. Any help is appreciated.. there doesn't seem to be 1 single resource listing public WMS servers, their layers and any vector layers I can overlay (or maybe I'm typing the wrong thing into google). Any help appreciated, Thanks -Ryan _______________________________________________ Dev mailing list Dev@openlayers.org http://openlayers.org/mailman/listinfo/dev _______________________________________________ Dev mailing list Dev@openlayers.org http://openlayers.org/mailman/listinfo/dev
