Hi Garnett,
I know that it is possible in OpenOffice to save meta data such as author
and date. But I didn`t manage it to
assume this data from a .doc - file to an open office document
automatically. Do you know if this is possible?

Tobias,
Please specify what meta data from MS Office that OOo does not
handle. OOo does have meta data such as author, subject, user defined
fields, etc. The Java OOo API does provide access to this meta data.
May be able to provide a better answer with more details on
the
meta data you are trying to work with.

for a project I need to open Word / Excel - files, replace some text and
save the files again automatically. Until now I experienced with the
Java -
API for OpenOffice which was very suitable for this purpose.
But recently I noticed that OpenOffice is not able to handle MS Office
meta
data, and therefore cannot be used for my project. Now I need another
solution for my problem, does anybody know anything? It may even be a
commercial product.
