Like, see what happen(s/ed) with gpc? There's basegfx' implementation any serious distribution nowadays use, and community builder which doesn't have gpc.c/gpc.h in external/gpc use and it works. But people still use gpc? Why? Because the build instructions tell so and old versions even failed unless you specified --disable-gpc (changed longer ago).
