Hi, I'm a frequent user of Open Office Writer(Tool similar to MS Word).I always feel that there should be a keyboard shortcut for highlighting the selected portion of text, like there is one in the MS WORD 2007 i.e. CTRL+ALT+H, or there can be something else.
