I wonder what is the easiest way to find the specification for a

FWIW, the particular question at hand arose within Writer, File>
Printer Settings> Properties> Paper Tray, which sets "document
changed" (i.e., enables Saved icon in the toolbar and makes the
program prompt if you close the document without saving) only the
first time you change the setting for the document. Meanwhile,
similar user actions in Calc or Impress seem not to set "document
changed" at all. For comparison, the similar-looking control within
File> Page> Page Paper Tray seems always to set "document changed"
in all three of these document types. Is this behaviour right? Or
have I found a bug? Two bugs?

I seem to keep bumping into little questions like this, and I *should*
be able to answer them for myself, should I not?

You won't find a specification for each detail of old, basic features. "Only the first time" sounds like an unintended side effect of creating the SfxPrinter on demand.
