I'd be careful about blaming Windows for this. The auto-complete typeover bug was written off as a "Windows-only" problem (or Windows look-and-feel anyway) for a long time, but it was solved by reordering the function calls in a manner that worked on all platforms. There may be some quirks in the code that are only manifested on Windows, but it's worth investigating in any case.
