There's potential for conflicts over things other than just names: - Administrative boundaries (eg Kashmir) - Road classifications; some people might be tempted to lower the classification of the road outside their house to reduce traffic - Footpaths - disputed rights of access to farmland etc - Private roads and driveways - Military buildings and secure facilities
A solution that worked just for names would not deal with all possibilities. 80n On Feb 9, 2008 3:34 PM, Gervase Markham <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Thomas Walraet wrote: > > I don't think it's good idea if we had to decide who is the good guy and > > who is the bad guy. > > It's not a case of deciding on good guys and bad guys, but on right > names and wrong names. > > > My suggestion is to encourage those guy to host their own localized > maps. > > - Drop the name rendering for this region on all the OSM-hosted maps ? > > The map would then become fairly useless. > > > - Only render localized names for this region to lower the importance of > > the "name" tag ? > > That would be even worse - which localised name do you render? > > > - Forbid the use of the "name" tag through the API for this region ? > > So the slippy map has no names?
