My problem isn't a lot of details, it is that (as you pointed out) the OSM data model is not the right tool for the job of describing very complex 3D objects. Trying to mash 3D modeling into OSM results in impossibly complex data for any but the most advanced users to maintain. There are existing tools that are "the right tool" for 3D modeling. I would rather see more thought put into coming up with a better way of linking external databases to OSM data and then use an external database for these 3D models.
