ASTER is not limited to non-commercial.  Your use of the CGIAR data 
seems limited to areas with neither ASTER nor SRTM data so you could 
get rid of it quite easily without significant losses.

Your method by the way simply overlays the different data sets which 
will lead to significant steps at the edges due to differences in 
height calibration.
