For example, we need to update the parquet-format first, in order to update the Scala version of parquet-mr <https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/PARQUET-1496>. Would be great to fix all the remaining issues that are blocking for parquet-format, do a release and then resolve the remaining issues of parquet-format. I'm happy to work on this as well.
