The latest released version is 1.7.1. All information about pdfbox can be found on our webpage [1].
You have to use the trunk version [2], [3] if you want to work with the latest code. We are using JIRA [4] to track issues. It is open for everybody, feel free to search for open issues to work on them or to create new ones if you can't find any existing issue related to the problem you're facing.
