So the clipping path can't change between BT/ET but the other graphics and text 
state values _can_, though only per text-run and not per-glyph. I've overridden 
processText() to apply these values to the Graphics2D context once per 
text-run. Fixed in [r1606943|http://svn.apache.org/r1606943].
