Tilman Hausherr commented on PDFBOX-2372:
-----------------------------------------

Thanks... while there are still differences to previous renderings, I tried a
new approach after finding zapf dingbats font file on a 20 year old backup.
However one can also find it by searching the web e.g. for zapfdingbats.pfb
(e.g.
https://java.net/projects/el-spec/sources/source-code/show/trunk/fonts?rev=285
), or buy it for $29 from Adobe and others. To stop the confusion about squares
because of the missing font, from now on I'll always test with the font, and
some files are rendered better, e.g. PDFBOX-1900 and PDFBOX-563. And I'd say
that whatever happens when the font is not installed is undefined (for now).

The file PDFBOX-1735-confidential.pdf still has the trash glyphs on the left of
p7, however there's really something there, but which is probably a programming
error from the producer of that file. The difference is just that Adobe shows a
blank and you show a square.

Other difference: PDFBOX-2245-052567.pdf (shows square).

However as per my argument above, it is good for me.

> There are several regressions from the changes done on the evening of
> 19.9.2014. Because I can't map these to one single change, I had to open a
> new issue.
> PDFBOX-563-acroform.pdf: trash glyphs at the bottom
> PDFBOX-1735-confidential.pdf p7: trash glyphs on the left
> PDFBOX-2245-052567.pdf: trash glyphs
> PDFBOX-2251-070075.pdf: trash glyphs
