Support for the various PrintRequestAttributes is print-driver specific. You'd 
think that Java would handle PageRanges but it actually delegates this to the 
printing subsystem via some platform-specific glue code. Anecdotally on OS X I 
have noticed many bugs, especially with Java 1.6. I've specifically had 
problems with PageRanges being ignored.

On the other hand, the given printer driver might simply not honour the 
PageRanges attribute. I'd recommend trying a different JDK. Failing that, use a 
Book to create a document with only the pages you want - that's guaranteed to 
work.
