It turns out that due to the changes of PDFBOX-5143 the class
{{org.apache.fontbox.cff.Type2CharStringParser}} is (no longer) thread-safe,
see [PR#193| https://github.com/apache/pdfbox/pull/193] of Patrick Corless for
further details.
Instead of synchronizing the usage of the class as proposed in the PR, I'd
prefer to make the class itself thread-safe again
