I don't understand what you mean, [~ayingshu]. Date/time functions should take
date/time arguments, not strings. It doesn't matter what format it prints the
date out. We already have a way to convert a string to a date/time type. If the
user has a date string, they can nest the call like this:
{code}
SELECT YEAR(TO_DATE(my_date_string)) FROM my_table
{code}
