Serhiy Bilousov created PHOENIX-1721:
----------------------------------------

Summary: Add DUAL table or alike functionality
                 Key: PHOENIX-1721
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/PHOENIX-1721
             Project: Phoenix
          Issue Type: Improvement
            Reporter: Serhiy Bilousov
            Priority: Critical

The DUAL table is a special one-row, one-column table present by default in
Oracle and other database installations. In Oracle, the table has a single
VARCHAR2(1) column called DUMMY that has a value of 'X'. It is suitable for use
in selecting a pseudo column such as SYSDATE or USER.

In MS SQL you can do just do
"SELEC getdate() or SELECT 'x' AS DUMMY " without FROM

Something like that would be very helpful to really bring back SQL to noSQL.
