Would this work?
# Get and remember current time (t1)
# Do DML without SCN
# Get new connection specifying current time of t1
# Execute query (this wouldn't see the changes from the DML done in step 2)
# Execute query at old connection, the one without an SCN. You should see the 
changes from the DML.
