---------------------------------------------------------------
That said, if James would like to reserve the name Phoenix 3.x for something
next generation, that works, although those more substantial changes could go
into an Apache Phoenix 4.x.
The nearest JIRA equivalent to GitHub issue milestones is the 'Affects
Version/s' or 'Fix Version/s:' field. Typically the affects version is used to
indicate what version(s) are impacted by a bug or what the target version is
for a new feature. The fix version field is set after commit and the issue is
resolved. [~jamestaylor] I recommend defining version tags for these fields
like '3.0.0', '4.0.0', etc, after we have the base version for Apache Phoenix
figured out, and then either when the GitHub issues come over by import or
manually, start tagging them with the appropriate fix versions.

> Given the GitHub hosted Phoenix project is already up to the release series
> 2.0.x, I propose the first version of Phoenix released under the Apache roof
> should be 3.0.0.
