Please send questions like this to [email protected]. It is not possible for us to compile against different versions of hbase and publish different set of jars and installation. We already do that for hadoop 1.x and 2.x and adding more to that mix is a pain and increases the number of combinations. We will most likely just switch to compiling with hbase-1.0.1 once it is well adopted. Users always have the option of recompiling Pig for different versions of hbase as it is just a switch. Agree that it is not ideal as just download and use. But if you would like to have support added for it out of the box, please raise a jira. Welcome to contribute as well.
