guess this little experiment of yours showed that "option 2" is a valid approach ... I'll start working on doing the same for ethernet/ip ... hopefully that will be equally easy to integrate. I know that it will be quite some work to do the fine-tuning, but being able to integrate these protocol-implementations so easily is really unexpected and makes me really happy.
