With luck, David will see this and remind me of the name of the list member who has already done quite a bit of work on this topic; he even went as far as liasing with the xmlbeans developers to see which areas were open to improvement. If you do a search back through the dev list - and I think you will need to go back around six months - then I am sure you will see the discussion. As far as I remember, it revolved around how and when lists of cells were built but I cannot remember the full details, sorry.
