I know this didn't use to work. I found that out the hard way. But it has  
worked for the last couple of months, and it is very much simpler than any  
other technique. I can't imagine the configuraiton files will change again  
before 2.0

Go to the users data directory -- in my case
C:\Documents and Settings\acb\Application Data\OpenOffice.org1.9.89\
and rename the folder to the latest version -- OpenOffice.org1.9.92 or   
whatever.
Now run the new version for the first time; and, thouh I will be asked  
to  register again, all the other settings, macros, templates,  
shortcuts etc  work without fuss.
