And your assistance will definitely help when the Aqua version of
OpenOffice.org for the Mac is released (and I feel that is coming soon.)

I asked, and was told that testing the X11 version (which I "do not like" in that it is just not meant for the huge majority of Mac users, because of the Ctrl-X key combos rather than Cmd-X and the non-native file picker, as much as because of having to install and run X11) would also advance the Aqua port. So personally I am hoping to start testing ASAP.

But probably for "the masses" it would be best to wait for an aqua-fied build, yes.

As for this whole automated testing thing. Are not some tests to just be done manually and the results recorded manually? For instance, the test case that I was assigned (for base) looked like it was for localization and there were questions such as "was the wizard translated correctly". How would an automated test do that?

Also, please clue me in, I tried to find a definition of "shakedown" ... is that the same as an automated test?

Thanks, and, James, I shoot you a private message when I have some of my q's assembled. I've never used IRC (is there an advantage over iChat or AIM?) but willing to learn.
