Maybe Sophie doesn't have a font with the typographic quotes or has
a charset override active in her browser?

it seems to be font or platform specific. When looking at the document
on a Windows system then the typographic quotes used in that document
are shown. When using an other system then these characters are replaced
by a placeholder symbol. A placeholder symbol is shown when the
respective font doesn't contain that character at the corresponding
position within the font.
I'll ask Helge to modify this document...
