Is there any general feeling about using VMs for a test environment?
I use VMs very often for testing, as I can easily "reset" my system to a
clean environment just by restoring the clean VM. I found no real
differences in test results between real and virtual machines (as long
as the host has enouhg resources - I use DualCore CPU and at least 2GB RAM).
VMs are great for automatic testing. E.g. I'm doing the releasetests
(which run several hrs) on my notebook. If I need to switch off my
notebook I suspend the VMand pick up the tests later - never had
troubles with this.
