Yeah, I've been doing some work on the network / protocol abstraction,
which I'll land shortly. I'm also going to enable 0-9-1 support, that
should be pretty trivial though.

We've talked about doing split release in the past, but it's been met
with some pretty strong arguments against it. I'd like to avoid
rehashing those if possible.  ;)
