Synchronous operations (those producing -ok responses) may be being waited on
by client applications. We should provide configurable logging such that
"excessive" delayes in completing synchronous operations can be logged on the
broker - this may also be helpful in isolating performance issues (e.g. if
syncing to disk is becoming more and more expensive)
