Because {{automodapi}} is not packaged in many distributions and relies on
{{pip}} for installation, its presence presents packaging difficulties. Because
the use of {{automodapi}} is limited to the generation of {{autosummary}}
tables, and because these can be easily replaced with static tables, it would
make sense to remove this dependency. It would make the generation of the docs
simpler and remove one step in the process.
